A couple of weeks ahead of Duke Nukem Forever's long awaited release, an official Duke Nukem game will be released in the US next week ... but for another platform. Publisher Apogee Software announced this week that Duke Nukem Critical Mass for the Nintendo DS will be released to stores in the US on May 25. The game has previously been released in Europe.
In this installment of the long running game franchise, our main man Duke Nukem takes a time travel trip into the future: "a future of total chaos and disaster where humankind has been nearly wiped out, all the babes have been captured and enslaved, and aliens rule with an iron fist." Naturally, Duke's job is to kill the aliens, save the babes and win the future back for humanity. Duke Nukem: Critical Mass contains several different game modes including support for two player co-op play. There's also 15 different weapons and 30 different levels across nine locations.
Of course, this Nintendo DS game is just a small warm up to the main event: Duke Nukem Forever. The first person shooter that's taken 15 years to develop is scheduled to finally be released for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms on June 14 in the US and June 10 in other parts of the world. The game from Gearbox Software (taking over from where the original developer 3D Realms left off) will be preceded by a playable demo on June 3 for those folks who have pre-ordered the game or purchased Gearbox's Game of the Year edition of Borderlands.
