This year's CES starts tomorrow, and Dynabook, formerly known as Toshiba, has announced the Portégé X30L-G, a new super thin-and-light laptop powered by Intel's Comet Lake processors.
At 1.92lbs, the Portégé X30L-G is the lightest 13.3-inch laptop of its kind in the world, but that's because it uses a U-series Comet Lake processor, while many thin-and-light devices opt for the Y-series. Because it's using U-series processors, it can actually go all the way up to a six-core Intel Core i7-10710U. However, since it's not Ice Lake, you only get Intel UHD Graphics, and not Iris Plus.
As mentioned above, the display will be 13.3 inches, and it's available in both HD (1366x768) and Full HD (1920x1080) variants, with the FHD version also offering an optional touchscreen version. The Full HD version also comes with an IGZO display from Sharp with 470 nits of brightness on the non-touch version and 300 nits on the touchscreen variant.
In terms of storage, the Portégé X30L-G can be configured with up to 1TB of SSD NVMe storage, plus optional Intel Optane memory. As for RAM, the maximum onboard capacity is 8GB, but it comes with a free SODIMM slot that supports up to 16GB, so you can max out at 24GB of RAM.
Despite its form factor, the Portégé X30L-G offers plenty of ports, including a full-size HDMI, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port that can optionally be used for charging, a full-size Ethernet port (as in, without any doors), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD card slot. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. The laptop has a 42Wh battery, which Dynabook says can last up to 14.5 hours on a charge.
To be as light as it is, the Portégé X30L-G is made out of a magnesium alloy, and it comes in an Onyx Blue color. Despite its thinness, it's still got the MIL-STD-810G certification for durability.
The Portégé X30L-G will be available in February from Dynabook's website, Amazon, and other resellers. It will start at $1,599.
