It was at the end of May when Andy Rubin's Essential showed off its first Android handset, the PH-1. The device includes a near bezel-less display and also features the ability to accept modular accessories via its pogo pins on its rear.
While the anticipation for the PH-1 was growing, thanks in part to Rubin proclaiming that it would arrive within "30 days or so", there was a bit of disappointment when it didn't arrive, leaving many to believe that the startup had over-promised and certainly under-delivered.
After a long silence about its release, Rubin finally sent out a message to supporters, letting them know that the handset would arrive within a few weeks. This message, coupled with the fact that Best Buy was now listing the smartphone on its website, made it seem a little closer to reality.
Although we still don't have a launch date, it appears that the firm is now sending out an invitation for a 'First Look' event that is scheduled for August 25 in Los Angeles. Hopefully, there will be an update about when it will be released at the event. If curious about the device, the unlocked version is available to be reserved from Essential directly for $699 and you can still take advantage of the limited time offer on the modular 360-degree camera for an additional $50.
