Facebook puts gaming tab on its main navigation menu, replacing dedicated profile tab

Facebook appears to be ramping up its gaming push again. The social networking giant has added a dedicated gaming tab to the portion of its main navigation menu where the profile tab was previously located, according to TechCrunch.

It's worth noting that the gaming tab used to sit within the hamburger menu of Facebook's mobile app. With the latest change, that section of the social network is now taking a more prominent place in the platform.

Like its previous version, the gaming tab offers a way for users to search for instant games, play any title, or follow popular game streamers on the service. The gaming tab will reportedly be rolled out to a small set of gaming enthusiasts initially, with plans to bring it to more users in the future.

Facebook has yet to release an official statement regarding the change, but it is seen as part of its growing ambition in the gaming space. In June of last year, the company unveiled a video gaming hub designed to let users find gaming videos from creators and games they follow or pages and groups they like.

More to the point, the portal (fb.gg) was Facebook's response to Twitch's Pulse, which was launched in 2017 to help streamers share and interact with their followers. The social stream platform later added personalized recommendations. But whether Facebook's latest move can attract a significant number of streamers and fans in the gaming arena, currently dominated by Twitch along with competition from YouTube, remains to be seen.
