Last month, Samsung began its general rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat, starting with its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge flagships. While Google originally released Nougat almost six months ago, there's no sign yet of that update officially arriving on other devices in Samsung's range - but while the wait for the new version of the OS continues, the company is at least continuing to keep its devices up to date with the latest security patches.
As The Android Soul reports, Samsung has started updating the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge with new firmware based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Although the devices aren't being upgraded to Nougat yet, the latest update does include Google's newest Android security fixes, bumping the Galaxy S6 up to build number G920FXXU5DQAJ, and the S6 edge up to G925FXXU5DQAJ.
Additionally, Samsung has also started pushing the same new security update to its Galaxy A3 (2016). SamMobile notes that the update for that device - build number A310FXXU2BQB1 - has so far been spotted in the Netherlands, but it will likely make its way to other markets soon enough. Curiously, the new security patches don't yet appear to be available for the newer 2017 model of the Galaxy A3, which launched last month.
