Former BioWare producer helps to form Battlecry Studios

Bethesda Softworks continues to expand its in-house development studio family with the announcement today of a new team that's being formed in Austin, Texas. The team is called Battlecry Studios and its leader will be Rich Vogel, who worked at BioWare Austin as the executive producer of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Bethesda says that Battlecry Studios is currently hiring for an unannounced game, but details of that game have yet to be revealed. Vogel's resume would seem to suggest something with an MMO aspect. In addition to Star Wars: The Old Republic, he helped to develop Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies.

This new studio will actually be the second game development team that Bethesda has in the Austin area. It acquired Arkane Studios a few years ago. Its first game for its current owners, the stealth-based first person action game Dishonored, is due to be released next week.

Bethesda, under its ZeniMax parent company, also owns Dallas-based id Software, Japan-based Tango Gameworks, Sweden-based MachineGames and of course Bethesda Games Studios, which have created the acclaimed and best selling Elder Scrolls RPG titles. It also owns ZeniMax Online Studios, which is developing the upcoming MMO game Elder Scrolls Online.
