Fortnite Battle Royale is now available on the Nintendo Switch

The battle royale craze has finally arrived for the Nintendo Switch, with Epic Games' colossal Fortnite being officially announced for the console during Nintendo's E3 Direct presentation, confirming the recent rumors that were swirling around. The game is completely free to download and play through the eShop right now, but there may be some issues with the servers at first due to the load.

Cross-play functionality is also included in the Switch version, letting players jump into battle against PC, Xbox One, and mobile players. However, Epic Games PR manager Nick Chester confirmed on Twitter that cross-play with PlayStation 4 is not available on the Switch, very much similar to how Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players are locked out of playing together.

Note that Fortnite's PVE mode, Save the World, is not included in this release, with only the massively popular battle royale portion available to the hybrid console owners.
