Forza goes free-to-play with Forza Street, now available on the Microsoft Store [Update]

Forza is one of Microsoft's most well-known gaming franchises, with many acclaimed titles such as Forza Horizon 4 launching the Xbox One and PC over the past few years. Now, as reported by Windows Central, it seems like Microsoft is taking the franchise in a different direction with the launch of Forza Street, a free-to-play game that's now available on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10.

The existence of this game has actually been rumored for quite some time now, and it seems to be based on another title Microsoft launched relatively recently called Miami Street. In fact, it takes the same URL on the Microsoft Store as that game did, so it seems as though Microsoft has promoted it to a full-fledged Forza title after some time testing it under a different name.

Forza Street is a mobile-oriented game, unlike the bigger Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon games, with touch-based controls meant for devices like tablets and smartphones. Interestingly, it's only available for Windows 10 right now, so its audience isn't as big as it could be. Earlier rumors pointed to Android and iOS versions of the game, but those don't seem to be available yet.

Gameloft's Asphalt franchise is one of the most popular among mobile racing games, and it seems that this is the kind of market that Microsoft is going after with Forza Street. Asphalt 9 Legends was launched last year and one of the first apps to announce support for Windows 10 on ARM at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit back in December, so it'll be interesting to see if Microsoft's offering manages to win over more casual gamers. You can download the new game here.

Update: Through an official announcement on Xbox Wire, Microsoft has confirmed that the game will be coming to Android and iOS sometime this year. The company also says it will continue adding new features and listening to feedback from players.
