RED is primarily known for its top-tier cameras and accompanying accessories. But last year, it managed to turn a few heads and raise more eyebrows when it announced that it would be building a smartphone. The company would leverage its knowledge about cameras and produce a smartphone with a focus on providing a unique photo and video experience. It would take things a step further and tout a mysterious "holographic" display. Now, the time has almost finally arrived, when customers will begin receiving there highly anticipated Hydrogen Ones. Well, some customers will anyway.
According to RED founder Jim Jannard, there will now be a delivery delay for the Titanium version. Jannard previously detailed the release schedule of Hydrogen One, stating that the aluminum model would arrive first and the more limited Ti model would arrive sometime in 2019. It's not uncommon for there to be manufacturing snafus when using particular materials, but at least RED is doing right by its customers, offering Titanium pre-order customers an aluminum version for the time being.
"We will send all Ti pre-orders an aluminum HYDROGEN 1st when we begin shipping them. Additionally, when we finally do make Ti models correctly, we will send that to you at no charge. You are allowed to keep the aluminum as well."
Not only will Ti owners get an aluminum version of the phone, but they will also get to keep it once their Ti model arrives. RED's actions are quite admirable, considering that in this day and age we have seen much larger companies only offer up a discount to its customers for the inconvenience of owning an exploding phone. Although RED is a greenhorn in the smartphone market, it's very clear that it cares about its reputation and is committed to its customers.
