Existing iPhone devices already can connect to multiple Bluetooth devices such as Apple's Watch or Bluetooth headphones at the same time, but can't broadcast to two different pairs of Bluetooth audio devices simultaneously. That may change with future iPhones, though, according to Japanese tech blog Mac Otakara.
The blog cites a source from Apple's supply chain which claims that the next iPhone models may add support for dual Bluetooth audio broadcast. That means future models of Apple's smartphone may send audio to two Bluetooth headphones simultaneously.
It should be noted that this is not entirely a new feature for mobile devices. Samsung's dual audio feature, for example, already brings this capability to existing Galaxy flagship smartphones starting with the Galaxy S8 series, enabling users of those devices to play music to two Bluetooth audio devices at the same time.
Since Samsung's implementation of this functionality is based on Bluetooth 5.0, it's also possible that the rumored feature for future iPhones may support older models including the iPhone 8 series up to the iPhone Xs range.
Update: This article has been updated to clarify that the rumored functionality may enable future iPhones to send audio to two Bluetooth devices at the same time. Existing iPhone models already can connect to multiple Bluetooth devices simultaneously.
