Galaxy Nexus on sale today in UK

The UK seems to get all the cool smartphone launches first lately. On Wednesday it began selling the Lumia 800 from Nokia, the first phone from the company based on Windows Phone. Now comes word that our cousins from across the pond can now buy the Galaxy Nexus from Samsung. This is, of course, the first smartphone that will have Google's big Android 4.0 operating system installed and ready to go out of the box.

The word comes from the official Galaxy Nexus Twitter page which said that the phone is now on sale at Phones4U and will be added in the coming days to other wireless carriers and stores such as O2, Three, and Vodafone. The launch of the Galaxy Nexus comes just a few days after Google released the source code for Android 4.0 (otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich).

Meanwhile, US citizens are still awaiting word on when the Galaxy Nexus will be made available. Verizon has already been confirmed as the wireless carrier for the Samsung phone but as posting, the company has yet to confirm a specific release date for the $299.99 Galaxy Nexus. A previous rumor predicted that the smartphone might be made available for sale sometime around the Thanksgiving-Black Friday time period.

We are just hoping that the smartphone goes on sale sooner rather than later here in the US. The previously released hardware spec are impressive and it could give the iPhone 4S a run for its money, despite its fairly high price.
