Games with Gold: Gears of War 4 and Torchlight are now free

Less than a day after Microsoft announced the August Games with Gold lineup with two first-party titles, the company has pushed out the first wave of freebies Xbox Live Gold members can claim to their console libraries. Now, Xbox One owners can grab Gears of War 4 while Xbox 360 owners have Torchlight available to them.

Thanks to the old Xbox One Backward Compatibility program, Torchlight is also available to claim for those on Xbox One.

Head to the Microsoft Store links down below to claim the two games directly to a Gold activated account, and keep in mind Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers are eligible too.

Gears of War 4 (Xbox One)

A new saga begins for one of the most acclaimed video game franchises in history. After narrowly escaping an attack on their village, JD Fenix and his friends, Kait and Del, must rescue the ones they love and discover the source of a monstrous new enemy.

Torchlight (Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Players will choose from among three character classes, and venture from the safety of the town of Torchlight into randomly generated dungeon levels, with a huge variety of creepy monsters, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. Randomized levels and an 'endless dungeon' unlocked after completing the main game ensure a long-lived gameplay experience.

Meanwhile from last month's Games with Gold promotion, Big Crown: Showdown is still available to Xbox One owners for free, with its freebie slot slated to be replaced by Forza Motorsport 6 on August 16. Keep in mind that only Xbox 360 games claimed via Games with Gold remain playable if the Xbox Live Gold subscription expires, while claimed Xbox One games require an active subscription.
