Gemini PDA picks up Jolla Sailfish OS support with initial "community edition"

The Gemini PDA started life on Indiegogo and after a successful campaign, found its way into the hands of thousands of backers. During Mobile World Congress 2018, Jolla announced that it would be bringing Sailfish OS to the device and today has made a "community edition" OS build available for download.

The community edition of Sailfish OS 2.1 isn't feature packed but is meant to give eager users a first-hand look at the experience. The OS will offer the essentials but will not have support for Android apps or future software updates. Jolla has plans to continue work on the OS in the months to come, with hopes of releasing a beta sometime in September. The beta will be a bit more fleshed out and will include support for software updates, which will allow users to continuously update until the final beta version is released. After the beta is complete, Jolla plans to release the official version of the OS by year's end.

If the Gemini PDA looks interesting, you can purchase one starting at £499.00. The clamshell device is designed as a mobile PC, running Android, featuring a physical keyboard.
