Gigabyte unveils the world's smallest Nvidia GTX 1080

After announcing its Intel-based Raspberry Pi competitor back in July, Gigabyte is back with a new product targeted at customers who prefer hardware that comes in the high-performance, small form factor graphics space. The company has outed the GeForce GTX 1080 Mini ITX 8G, which measures just 169mm (6.7in) in length and replaces the 211mm (8.3in) Zotac GTX 1080 Mini as the world’s smallest GTX 1080.

Barely fitting in the 170 x 170mm mITX specifications, the graphics card is nearly four inches shorter than a full-size model but retains the full capabilities of the GTX 1080 GPU. Unlike the Zotac card and every other air-cooled version, the Gigabyte GTX 1080 Mini features just a single semi-passive 90mm fan, which shuts down at idle. However, the firm claims that the fan’s custom-designed blades combined with a triple copper heat-pipe cooling solution is enough to shift the heat from the GTX 1080's 180W TDP.

The card sports a single 8-pin power connector and 5+2 power phases. As for clock speeds, the card maintains a reference base clock of 1607MHz and a boost clock of 1733MHz under Gaming Mode, with OC Mode pushing the base clock to 1632MHz and boost clock to 1771MHz. In addition, the GPU is backed by 8GB of GDDR5X memory that is factory overclocked to 1010MHz.

The Gigabyte GTX 1080 Mini is currently the fastest graphics card you can buy in such a small form factor, as AMD’s R9 Nano is no longer in production and Team Red has not yet announced an RX Vega-based successor.

Gigabyte has not yet revealed any details on pricing or availability.
