Google and Asus rumored to reveal $199 Nexus tablet

This week's reveal of the upcoming Surface tablet from Microsoft may not be the only such announcement from a major Internet company this month. Today, Digitimes reports via unnamed sources claims that Google is all set to reveal its own Nexus branded tablet device at next week's Google I/O developer conference next week in San Francisco.

The story says that the tablet will be a joint venture between Google and Asus, which has been rumored in the past. It also claims that the price of the seven inch tablet will be $199 and will go on sale in July. Digitimes adds that Google's Chrome web browser will be pre-loaded on this new Nexus tablet and it will be WiFi only but it will have a front facing camera. The story claims that Google will ship three million units of this tablet by the end of 2012.

Asus has already confirmed its plans to make Windows 8-based desktops, tablets and notebooks. That includes an Windows RT-based tablet that will also support a detachable keyboard. Digitimes' story today claims that Asus will also launch another tablet PC on its own in August that will have a seven inch screen and be priced between $159 and $179. No other details were revealed.
