Google Chrome extensions imminent

Techcrunch is reporting that it appears Google Chrome is about to receive it's long awaited extensions - the latest builds of Chrome - including the Windows, Mac and Linux builds are showing various links to a "extensions gallery" at Google.com which doesn't exist.

In the new builds, a jigsaw piece appears next to the theme gallery button - if you click it, it'll send you right back to google.com, but if you hover over it, the link it shows it goes to https://chrome.google.com/extensions - presumably where the new gallery will be hosted. Next to the jigsaw piece is a bubble that says "New! Chromium now has extensions and bookmark sync." Also, If you type chrome://extensions/ into the URL field, the browser shows a message that says: "Want to browse the gallery instead?"

Screenshots also posted by Google Code Reviewers also confirm the imminent release of extensions, with a number of confirmed features such as the ability to add buttons to the toolbar and edit custom tab pages. Google is also aiming to make it simple for anyone to make their own extension. You can follow the Google developers talk here for more up to date information.
