Google details new Chrome OS features including Ambient EQ and Netfilx PIP support

Google typically releases new versions of Chrome OS every 6 weeks, coinciding with the browser release schedule. However, while Chrome 80 for desktop has been available for a while, the wider rollout for Chrome OS has not begun yet. Today, the search giant is detailing a few features that are making its way to Chrome OS with the latest release.

The first feature that the blog details is Ambient EQ. This feature lets devices tweak the white balance and screen temperature of the screen depending on the ambient light of the environment that the device is in. The feature is similar to what Apple offers with its True Tone Display. The first device to sport this feature would be the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook that was announced at CES 2020 in January. The device will be available for purchase starting next month.

Another feature that is making it to Chrome OS is picture-in-picture support for Netflix. While the Chrome browser began supporting picture-in-picture more than a year ago, support for Netflix is a welcome addition since users can now use other apps while streaming content on Netflix, Improving multitasking capabilities. The firm adds that there is no setup required since the app automatically enters picture-in-picture mode when users switch to another window.

With the Mountain View giant detailing the features coming to the next Chrome OS release, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the company begin rolling out the update to a wider audience sooner than later.
