Google holding press event Oct. 29; spoiler for Windows Phone 8?

Is Google planning to rain on Microsoft's parade? It sure sounds like it. A number of media outlets got invites late on Wednesday asking them to attend a Android-themed press event in New York City on October 29th.

The press event, as reported by BGR.com, also happens to coincide with Microsoft's own Windows Phone 8 launch events, which will be held in San Francisco, London and other locations around the world.

So what does Google have planned for the assembled press on that same day? There have been rumors that the company is planning to reveal new Android smartphones with the Nexus brand, including one made by Sony. There's also a lot of evidence that there is a 32 GB version of the recently launched Nexus 7 tablet coming very soon.

Google and Microsoft held dueling press events earlier this year at NYC when Microsoft and Nokia revealed the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 and Google countered with new Motorola RAZR smartphones in September.

So it certainly looks like the next couple of weeks will see a ton of new tech product introductions and press launches, including Windows 8 and the Surface tablet on October 26th.
