Half Life 2 Interview

This was my first visit to Seattle, and for that matter VALVe software as well. I arrived there Thursday afternoon with loads of anticipation and a fistful of questions sent in by our Planet Half-Life readers. After taking a few pictures of the lobby area, I was greeted by none other than Gabe Newell. I sat down with him and CEO Scott Lynch and talked for a while about Steam and the licensing of the source engine.

Q: Are there dynamic shadows from the flashlight or muzzle flash in CS: Source?

A: I didn't actually ask this, but I did not see any when I played CS: Source

Q: How much will the source engine cost (modder/developer question) ?

A: There is no known price as of yet, but if you use steam as your distribution method it will be considerably cheaper.

Q: If you picked up a item with the manipulator and changed levels, would the item stay with you?

A: Robin Walker was asking this question, and he responded with a big YES.
