Hands on with Verizon's Lumia 735

Verizon announced yesterday the availability of the Lumia 735 that was first released way back in September of 2014, and it can be yours for $192 off contract or $29 with a two year agreement. The phone comes with a subscription to Office 365, which does sweeten the deal, as that subscription service runs $69.99 a year.

In the box are all the standard pieces of equipment you expect; the phone, battery, wall charger, and data cable. The phone only comes in black but the back cover can be swapped with the other colorful (and optional) covers that are available for the 735; full specs are below.

  • 4.7-inch OLED with HD (1280x720px) resolution and Gorilla Glass 3
  • Quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB storage (plus microSD support up to 128GB)
  • 6.7MP rear camera with ZEISS optics
  • 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens
  • 4G LTE
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 2220mAh battery
  • 134.7 x 68.5 x 8.9mm; 134g

If you have held any other of the low-ish end Windows Phones in the Lumia range, the 735 will feel familiar to you. The case is all plastic and the matte black finish does show fingerprints but not as bad as some other devices we have used.

The hardware buttons (volume up/down, power) are firm to press and have a satisfying 'click' when engaged. If you want to learn more about the 735, make sure to read our in-depth hands-on post here.

Verizon's version is much like that of the international version except that it ships with 16GB of memory and of course can only be purchased in black. I am going to toss Windows 10 Mobile on this device to see how it performs too.
