Headphone adapter not working on Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL for some users

The new Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have seen a plethora of problems ever since the devices went on sale. Users have reported several issues, including screen burn-in, audio problems, camera results when used under LED Lighting, multi-touch problems and more.

Users are now reporting on the Google Pixel Community forum that the USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter is not working on their devices. When connected, the music is played through the speakers instead of the headphones.

Users have contacted Google for a replacement adapter, while some people report that rebooting the device fixes the issue for them. One of the users mentions that he has tried three different dongles and the problem is still present.

Google support recommends users to restart the device in safe mode and then check if the problem persists. However, this is not a permanent solution as one cannot boot into safe mode every time they want to listen to music. As per the reports on the Pixel Community, rebooting into safe mode didn't work for some of them.

There's no word from Google about the issue, but it appears to be a widespread problem, and there's no response from any Google representative in the below linked thread at the time of writing.
