Earlier this year, Skydance Interactive announced that The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, one of the most well-received virtual reality games, is getting a sequel. While details were scarce then, the studio reappeared at the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase to reveal a teaser trailer (see above) and some fresh information about this new venture, dubbed Chapter 2 Retribution.
In the trailer we can see some handy chainsaw action, and while the sequel is going to a new fresh area of New Orleans, the creepy and gloomy atmosphere will remain a part of the experience. There is a new axe-wielding villain to take down this time.
Based on Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comics, the original 2020 game's story let players loose in the zombie infested New Orleans as "The Tourist". Following the lore, destroying the head of a zombie is what removes these undead from the equation, and the title offered plenty of ways to do so, from immersive two-handed melee combat to throwables and firearms.
An engaging storyline, random events, time management to avoid hordes, a deep crafting system, and more were part of the original, which are sure to return with even more twists in the upcoming sequel.
Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners Chapter 2 Retribution is currently announced for the Meta Quest 2 and PCVR headsets, and it is releasing sometime this year. While the original was available on PlayStation VR, the studio may be waiting for Sony's massively upgraded PlayStation VR2's arrival to bring the game to the platform.
