Hitman 2 officially announced for later this year, drops episodic format

Agent 47 is returning for another round of assassinations, as IO Interactive and Warner Bros. officially announced Hitman 2 today. Unlike the previous entry from 2016, the new game will not arrive in an episodic format, with the studio opting to release the full game in one go.

There will be a change in scenery as well, with players getting the chance to travel to various exotic locations featuring "hyper-detailed sandboxes" such as "dark and dangerous rainforests," and Miami during a motorsport race. The storyline will follow Agent 47's ongoing pursuit of the Shadow Client, who's identity will finally be revealed.

In addition to the base game, there is now a standalone mode that two players can tackle cooperatively named Sniper Assassin, but players are welcome to try it solo as well. This mode is available right now to all players who pre-order Hitman 2, as an early access bonus.

Speaking of pre-orders, there are several editions available, and details on each of them can be found here. But, keep in mind that those who pre-purchase the Gold or Collector's Editions will get to play the game four days earlier than everyone else.

Warner Bros. will be taking over the publishing duties this time, as IO Interactive parted ways with Square Enix last year to become an independent studio.

Hitman 2 is heading for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on November 13, 2018. We will probably get to see some gameplay footage and more details regarding the levels during E3 next week.
