HMD Global has yet to fully deliver on its rollout of Android 10; after revealing an updated roadmap for the rollout earlier in the year, the company has had a hard time delivering the updates in the promised timeframes, and the Nokia 3.1 and 5.1 have yet to receive the latest Android version. However, the company today shared its update plans regarding Android 11, though it may have done so by mistake.
In a now-deleted tweet by the Nokia Mobile social media account, the company laid out its plans to roll out the update to supported devices through the second quarter of 2021, and as usual, it goes back to include phones released in the past two years or so. Most accurately, the company seems to include phones that were released with Android Pie (version 9), thus giving most phones two generations of Android updates.
That means many phones have been dropped, however, including flagships like the Nokia 8 Sirocco, as well as budget devices like the original Nokia 1. The oldest device to get the update is the Nokia 8.1, which launched at the end of 2018 and was the company's first phone to come with Android Pie out of the box.
The tweet also states that HMD Global/Nokia have delivered 1000 updates in the last three years, which is presumably counting security updates separately for each device. Since the tweet has been deleted, it's possible that some of the information isn't accurate, or the company simply didn't intend to share the information at this time. Either way, it should give customers an idea of what to expect.
