HMD Global, the company responsible for the latest Nokia-branded smartphones, was fairly quick to roll out Android Pie to a large number of its devices earlier this year, including older models such as the Nokia 5 and 6 from 2017. However, since MWC took place towards the end of February, the process died down, leaving a few phones still on Android Oreo for the past few months.
Luckily, one of those phones - the original Nokia 3 launched in 2017 - is finally getting some love. HMD Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, used Twitter to announce that the update is now available for the company's first smartphone under the Nokia brand.
The Nokia 3 was announced alongside the Nokia 5 at MWC in 2017, but was released just a little earlier. It was also the only Nokia smartphone to be released to the public with Android 7.0, rather than 7.1.1.
With this release, there are only a couple of Nokia phones missing their slice of Android Pie, aside from those still waiting for the phased rollout to be completed. Those phones are the Nokia 2, which unfortunately won't be getting Pie at all, and the Nokia 1, which is running the Go edition of Android Oreo. Earlier this year, Nokia promised the rollout would be completed by the end of the second quarter.
