HTC 10 gets a new update on T-Mobile... with three-month-old Android security patches

If you're on T-Mobile and you own a HTC 10, there's good news for you today, as the carrier is now rolling out a new software update for the device. There's bad news too, though: it comes with Android security patches that are now three months old.

The update will bump up the HTC 10's software up to version number 2.41.531.44, and includes various "system enhancements", along with the usual mix of unspecified bug fixes and other performance improvements.

But while it also includes updated Android security patches, they're far from the latest ones available. Google has already released its July security update, but T-Mobile is only now updating the HTC 10 with the April patches.

Better late than never? Given the ever-present threat of malware and other security issues on the Android platform, manufacturers like HTC, and carriers such as T-Mobile, will have to do a lot better than that to keep users' devices safe.
