Huawei announces its P9 and P9 Plus flagships

Huawei today has announced its latest duo of flagship devices, the 5.2" P9 and the 5.5" P9 Plus. The devices promise an all-metal unibody, the company promising "exceptional craftsmanship".

Huawei seems very focused on design with the pair of devices, promising an "organic design" and gently curved bodywork. The firm also promises a large display in a small body.

Of course, the only way to fit a larger display in a smaller body is to have a thinner bezel. With this, the company promises an invisible edge.

Still focusing on design, Huawei also made it a point to show that there is no camera bump, comparing it to Apple's iPhone 6S and Samsung's Galaxy S7.

The cameras on the two devices were co-engineered between Huawei and Leica. The devices use two 12 MP sensors, one of which is monochrome.

This technology promises to improve contrast in photos by up to 50%, as well as triple the amount of light information that the phone receives. The monochrome lens doesn't have the same RGB light filtering that the other lens has, so it can take in more light.

Both devices will sport 8 MP front cameras as well, which will include autofocus.

Huawei is promising battery life that's far superior to its competitors as well, with 12 hours of HD video, eight hours of 4G browsing, and 56 hours of music playback. This is on the smaller P9, which also includes the smaller battery.

The devices use Huawei's in-house octa-core Kirin 955 chipset. The processor is four 2.5 GHz cores of ARM Cortex-A72 and four 1.8 GHz cores of ARM Cortex-A53.

The P9 will be come in Mystic Silver and Titanium Grey, starting at £449. There will be a Quartz Grey P9 Plus for £549; however, that will be exclusive to Vodafone. The devices will be available in EMEA markets, as well as China.
