Huawei Mate 40 Pro unboxing and first impressions

Last week, Huawei announced the Mate 40 series, and we've got one for testing. The Mate 40 Pro comes with Huawei's HiSilicon Kirin 9000 chipset, the first 5nm SoC with 5G integration. It offers 25% better CPU performance, 150% better NPU performance, and more.

The design of the device has changed too. Huawei stuck with the circular look for the camera housing, but it changed it up this time around by putting the cameras in a black border around the Leica branding. The colors are black, white, and Mystic Silver, with the black model being the one that Huawei sent me. There are also two vegan leather options, which are yellow and green.

Typically, the Shenzhen firm focuses on camera innovation in the P-series, so you shouldn't be surprised to see that the camera sensors themselves are mostly the same as you'd find in the P40 Pro. This device has a 50MP Super Sensing RYYB camera, along with a 20MP Ultra Wide Cine and a 12MP 5x periscope lens, the only difference from the P40 Pro being the resolution of the ultra-wide lens.

The display is 6.76 inches, and like the P40 series, it has a 90Hz refresh rate. Huawei stuck with the Horizon Display that we saw on last year's Mate 30 Pro, and it's like the display just fades into the background and there's no bezel at all. It's quite nice.
