Hydrogen OS 3.0 now available for OnePlus 3 and 3T

OnePlus has been in the news a lot lately. It recently released a rather weird advertisement to promote the OnePlus 3T, restocked the 128GB variant of the handset, and rolled out its latest update for Android 7.0 on the OnePlus 3 and 3T as well.

Now, the company has made Hydrogen OS 3.0 available for both the aforementioned handsets.

Hydrogen OS 3.0 is based on Android 7.0 Nougat and is primarily intended for Chinese customers. The latest update to Hydrogen OS reportedly includes a redesigned UI, call recording functionality, bug fixes, performance enhancements and battery life improvements.

That said, it is substantially different from its sibling branch, Oxygen OS, which is for international customers. Although Hydrogen OS generally contains more fixes and improvements, it is important to note that being a Chinese build, it comes devoid of any Google services, including the Play Store.

However, it can be flashed on any OnePlus 3 or 3T device, requiring Google services to be side-loaded separately. Some Chinese apps which some users will find useless also come bundled with the update, but they can be deleted.

The ROM for Hydrogen OS 3.0 weighs in at 1.2GB in download size and can be found in the OnePlus or XDA forums, with full details of the installation procedure. The forums also contain links for the Google Play Store installer, should you need to download Google apps after flashing your device.
