IBM declares TransNote a write-off

IBM Australia has scratched the TransNote portable PC from its ThinkPad range.

IBM Australia is hoping to get rid of the handful of TransNotes it has left quickly by cutting the price tag on remaining stocks of the device to AU$3,999.

Once they run out the device will be finished.

Introduced a year ago, TranNote broke away from the conventions of laptop design giving the user three data input methods: keyboard, touch screen or pen. The concept didn't survive the year; IBM pulled the TransNote out of production last December.

At the time it was introduced, IBM said that the TransNote, would be the first in a series of computers that sought to better address how people record information on the go. IBM produced several, more radical, computer designs, including a wearable ThinkPad and a watch computer.

IBM Australia said that the ThinkPad hasn't achieved its goal in crowning the ThinkPad range.
