IBM may be building fab for AMD

A REPORT SAID Big Blue is creating a 12-inch 90 nanometer fab with the aim of turning it over to AMD. According to Silicon Strategies, rumours – which we haven't heard – say that IBM is in the process of ripping out its Advanced Semi Technology Centre in East Fishkill.

And the rumours continue that when new equipment is installed, AMD will be given use of the fabrication plant. Early this year AMD and IBM concluded an arrangement to cooperate on future chip technologies. And at the time it was unclear whether that deal included foundry facilities as well as technological cooperation.
