Intel Alder Lake-P Core i7-12700H allegedly eats the Ryzen 9 5900HX and M1 Max for breakfast

Intel has already begun launching its desktop Alder Lake-S lineup and that means devices featuring its mobile Alder Lake-P and Alder Lake-M CPUs unveilings shouldn't be too far off. If we had to guess, CES 2022 might be when Intel launches systems with Alder Lake-P inside, or it could do it earlier too.

As such, leaks here and there are bound to happen and today, Notebookcheck says it has got leaked scores of the upcoming Alder Lake-P Core i7-12700H in Cinebench(CB) R20 and R23 which shows it completely dominating AMD's Ryzen 9 5900HX and Apple's M1 Max in terms of single-thread (ST) and multi-thread (MT) performance. The site speculates that the scores it received were from a sample CPU inside an upcoming MSI GE76 Raider laptop.

Here's how the Core i7-12700H purportedly stacks up against the Apple M1 Max and the Ryzen 9 5900HX:

CB R20 (ST) CB R20 (MT) CB R23 (MT)
Ryzen 9 5900HX 570 4,859 12,570
Apple M1 Max 390 2,735 12,385
Core i7-12700H 689 7,158 18,501

The performance is quite meaningless without some power numbers and AnandTech reports that the Apple chip consumed 34 watts (W) during its Cinebench R23 multi-thread run. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 9 5900HX is rated for much higher cTDP than this (up to 54W); and the Intel Core i7-12700H is expected to be one of the 45W 14 core, 20 thread (6 P-core, 8 E-core) H45 SKU that has leaked earlier.

The leaked image below shows the alleged Alder Lake-P and Alder Lake-M mobile CPU parts:

This means the i7-12700H would be a 45W TDP processor and Intel's power consumption figures generally tend to be higher than TDP numbers. However, assuming the leaked scores are accurate, it is extremely impressive to see the Core i7-12700H being able to beat its rivals' chips in such a convincing fashion.
