Is Nokia teasing a tablet announcement for Tuesday?

Nokia has long been rumored to be working on a Windows tablet, and those rumors may finally be validated on Tuesday when the company is to reveal "something BIG".

In a post on its official Facebook page, Nokia uploaded an image that could be the back of the widely anticipated tablet, or simply an image of its logo in red, but it was the text that accompanied the image that was noteworthy: "Watch this space, something BIG [is] landing here tomorrow." The most obvious interpretation of the statement is that Nokia plans on releasing a tablet, though the company could be teasing a phablet. Given the fact that Microsoft has yet to support larger screen sizes with its Windows Phone operating system, however, a tablet seems the more likely possibility at the moment.

Nokia has set a U.K. press conference for 9 a.m. local time tomorrow, when whatever it's announcing will be revealed.

Nokia may be teasing a tablet or phablet reveal for sometime Tuesday, if its Facebook post is any indication.

Rumors of a Nokia tablet first originated in November 2011, with reports that the company would release a Windows 8 tablet. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop confirmed in May 2012 that his company is planning a range of tablets. "Tablets are an important [product], so that is being looked into," he said, "and there will be different hybrids, different form factors in the future."

Earlier this month, a rumor surfaced that Nokia is working on two tablets: one with a 10.5-inch screen and another with an 8.5-inch screen. Additionally, the rumor claimed Nokia is working on a phablet with a screen size between 6 and 7 inches, though the device isn't expected to be released until June 2014. An images purportedly of Nokia's Windows RT tablet surfaced a day after that rumor, though the individual who leaked the photos said the device was a prototype that was abandoned.

Last week noted technology tipster @evleaks reported Nokia is working on a device with the code name "Rivendale," though no clarification was given on what the device could be.

Neowin's Andy Weir posted his own mockup of what he wants from a Nokia Windows RT tablet last year, and users overwhelmingly said they'd be in interested in purchasing such a device. More than 60 percent responding to a poll said they would purchase the tablet, and another 30 percent said they'd consider purchasing the device.

Update: As Neowin users are pointing out, the teaser could also be of the Nokia Lumia 625, a low-end smartphone with a 4.7-inch screen, which would make it the largest smartphone the company has released. The Lumia 625 is expected to launch in China later this month.
