In the last six months, Microsoft has signed up a large range of new hardware partners to Windows Phone, including LG, Lenovo, Fly, Blu, Prestigio, Foxconn, Gionee, K-Touch, ZTE, and more. Huawei announced this month that it has abandoned Windows Phone, however, claiming that it is 'not profitable' for the company - but that's not stopping other manufacturers from joining the platform.
KAZAM is the latest to sign up to Windows Phone, and has announced its first device running Microsoft's mobile OS. The Thunder 340W is the first handset in a new range of Windows Phones on the way from the company, which was created last year by two former HTC executives.
Michael Coombes - who used to be head of sales at HTC, and is now KAZAM's CEO - said that "the addition of a Windows Phone to KAZAM's growing portfolio is an important step... as more people are choosing the many benefits and personal experience offered by Windows Phone 8.1."
The Thunder 340W comes with a silver 'metal brush finish', and includes:
- 4-inch WVGA (800x480px) IPS LCD
- Quad-core 1.2GHz processor
- 512MB RAM
- 4GB onboard storage
- 5MP rear camera with 720p video recording
- VGA front-facing camera
- Dual-SIM support
- 1500mAh battery
Fairly run-of-the-mill stuff, you'll agree, but this handset is targeting budget-conscious buyers at the lower-end of the market, rather than going after the flagships of the world. The company has not yet announced details of pricing or availability, but all of its devices sell for under £200 GBP (roughly $325 USD).
And just like its £40 ($65) Trooper X3.5 smartphone launched earlier this year, the new Thunder 340W will include a free screen repair service as part of the package. KAZAM will fix or replace your damaged screen completely free of charge (although it will only do so once during your first twelve months of ownership).
