Owners of AMD graphics cards are by now familiar with the firm's newest approach to releasing drivers "when it makes sense", rather than going the monthly route. Along with the aforementioned decision, AMD also revealed that its software package would get a new major release yearly, and thus a new name. After 2014's Omega and 2015's Crimson, last year saw the debut of Crimson Software ReLive, named after AMD's response to Shadowplay.
As opposed to the older Catalyst Control Center method of displaying driver versions, the newer ones adopt the year.month.day format. The latest Crimson ReLive driver is branded 17.4.1, but it isn't an April Fools' joke, as it brings better support for VR rendering APIs like Asynchronous Spacewarp (ASW) on the Oculus side, and Steam VR's Asynchronous Reprojection (SVRAR) technologies, depending on what graphics card you own.
Specifically, ASW support was added to Radeon R9 Fury series, Radeon R9 390 series and Radeon R9 290 series cards, with SVRAR support added to Radeon RX 480 and Radeon RX 470 (but only for those running on Windows 10).
In terms of display technologies, support for DisplayPort 1.4 HBR3 was added, along with 8K 60Hz dual cable and 8K 30Hz single cable.
