Lenovo announces new AMD Ryzen Pro-powered ThinkPads

Today, Lenovo announced three new ThinkPads powered by AMD's new Ryzen Pro processors, including the ThinkPad X395, ThinkPad T495, and ThinkPad T495s. As usual, AMD's second-generation Ryzen Pro chips include Radeon Vega graphics.

These three new models are very similar to their Intel-powered variants, the X390, T490, and T490s. One big difference is that they don't include Thunderbolt 3, since that's still an Intel technology, at least until USB 4 comes out.

What they do include, which sets them apart from the Intel models, is AMD FreeSync. This should provide a "fluid frame refresh rate, free of screen stutters". Of course, this doesn't just help with your workload; it's good for gaming as well.

The ThinkPad T495 and T495s have new, brighter displays that go up to 400 nits, and Lenovo says that it doesn't compromise battery life. They also include dual far-field voice microphones for better reception in conference calls. And as you'd expect, they include Lenovo's ThinkShutter privacy guard on the camera.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T495 will ship later this month, starting at $939, while the T495s and X395 are coming in early June, starting at $1,089.
