Lenovo's ThinkStation P620 is the first workstation with AMD's 64-core Threadripper PRO

Today, Lenovo announced the ThinkStation P620, the first workstation to include AMD's new Threadripper PRO processors. That also makes it the first workstation to have up to a 64-core CPU, and that's in a single-CPU solution. Previously, the most you'd get in a dual-CPU configuration was 56 cores.

Since the processor is made by AMD, which is way ahead of Intel on this, the processor supports PCIe 4.0 for twice the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0. It has 64 PCIe lanes that includes support for up to two Nvidia Quadro RTX 8000 or four RTX 4000 GPUs. It also supports up to 1TB of memory and up to 20TB of storage.

We’ve worked closely with AMD, ensuring the ThinkStation P620 removes all these barriers and gives users the support they need. Built on AMD’s versatile and extremely scalable Ryzen Threadripper PRO Processor there are no limits to what can be accomplished."

Also, the processor isn't just a Threadripper; it's Threadripper PRO, meaning that it has baked-in security features, such as AMD's Secure Processor, which validates code before it's executed. There's also AMD Memory Guard, which allows for memory encryption.

The Lenovo ThinkStation P620 will be available this September, starting at $4,599.
