Meizu is making a Star Trek themed Android phone? Make it so

We've seen pop culture themed smartphones before. Samsung has been known to partner with both DC and Marvel for Batman and Avengers themed phones, respectively. Even Nokia made a Batman-themed Lumia 900.

If photo leaks are to be believed, Star Trek fans will finally have their own smartphone. The device is the Meizu m3e, which was launched in a standard variant earlier this month. It's powered by the MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor, has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front camera. It seems likely that the Star Trek variant will have the same specs.

Indeed, for the first time in history, Trekkies can have a Star Trek themed smartphone and have it paired with an official Starfleet communicator. You can even use it to talk to Spock, if you're into Skype bots.

As these are just photo leaks, the specifics of the device are unknown. Meizu is a Chinese company, so we don't know if the device will launch in the US or Europe at all. If it does, there's still the question of which 4G LTE bands it will support. The standard m3e only supports a limited number of bands.

Fascinating.
