Microsoft adds 57 Story Remix effects to Photos app, coming to Fall update

Microsoft has rolled out an update for the Photos app with the Story Remix special effects feature. The app has been updated to version 2017.39081.13910.0 and for now, is only available for Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring with Skip Ahead enabled.

The update makes the following 57 special effects available to use in the app:

The above effects use Microsoft Graph technology to build stories by combining photos and videos. You can also add 3D objects into the photos as well as scribbles on such photos with Windows Ink.

For a preview of it in action, check out the video above, and below the changelog, which as noted is platform specific. Although only Skip Ahead Insiders can install it right now, Story Remix will arrive on Windows 10 with the Fall Creators Update, which will be released to the public on October 17.

  • Draw on your photos and videos and share an animation of your drawing with friends and family!
  • Enhance your photos with a new, easy-to-use Editor, including improved cropping, new filters and adjustable options like light and clarity.
  • Browse your collection and interact with single images more easily with your mouse and keyboard (PC only).
  • Enter full screen mode from the photo viewer with one click (or use the F11 key) (PC only).
  • Scroll to zoom! Use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out of your pictures.
  • Share or remove entire albums directly from the Albums page.
  • Change album titles by tapping or clicking the text to edit.
  • Easily select and remove photos from your album, via the photo itself or the thumbnail view.
  • Bug fixes.

As Microsoft noted with the OneNote app update, also only available for Skip Ahead Insiders, "all other Insiders won't receive app updates from the Windows Store until they are released to everyone," since the Fall Update is currently in stability testing for RTM.
