Last month, Microsoft unveiled the 2020 release wave 2 timeline for Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform, with further release plans set to be made available tomorrow. Today, though, the tech giant announced that it has acquired Orions Systems in a bid to boost the capabilities offered through the Dynamics 365 platform.
Microsoft's Connected Store service uses computer vision and IoT sensors to help organizations gain a better understanding of their customers' behavior in physical spaces. However, the process to utilize the obtained data efficiently is often complex and requires a high degree of configurability.
The acquisition of Orions Systems, with the firm's focus being on the development of "large-scale, hybrid, smart vision systems", is one that Microsoft hopes will help it ease the aforementioned model customization process. More specifically, additional technologies will be leveraged to provide techniques for retailers to develop and train their own AI models, through services like Connected Store or the Power Platform. As a result, more customizable and adaptive models that can extract information from physical spaces are hoped to be developed using the new set of tools.
