Microsoft announces general availability of Visio Online; adds new features

Microsoft announced the general availability of Visio Online today, which has been in public preview since November. The web app allows users to view and share their diagrams, and as of today, that will be open to 'almost all' commercial Office 365 subscribers.

But aside from general availability, there are also a couple new features. The firm introduced commenting today, which should allow your team "a place to review and discuss process flows, shape data and more without switching windows."

There are also new JavaScript APIs, which extend the capabilities of the web app. This will allow developers to create "rich mashup solutions to meet their organization's specific needs." The APIs provide access to diagrams in Visio Online and the developers can use them to interact with elements in them.

Visio Online is available for 18 different commercial Office 365 SKUs, including Business, Business Essentials, Business Premium, Education, Education E5, ProPlus, Enterprise E1, Enterprise E3, Enterprise E5, Government E1, Government E3, Government E5, Enterprise K1, Government K1, OneDrive for Business Plan 1, OneDrive for Business Plan 2, SharePoint Online Plan 1, and SharePoint Online Plan 2. You can find out more at Microsoft's FAQ for the product.
