Microsoft announces new features coming for continuity between devices

Microsoft held its day two keynote for its Build 2017 developer conference today, where it announced some of the features that will be arriving in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. OneDrive Files On-Demand, Timeline, Clipboard and 'Pick Up Where You Left Off' are meant to provide a shared experience between your Windows PC and iOS or Android device.

Timeline lets you go back in time and see what you were doing and when. Like the rest of these features, it works through Cortana, so it works across devices.

Clipboard is meant to allow you to copy and paste "just about anything" between your devices, including those running Windows, iOS, and Android. Microsoft says that you can hit copy on a photo, map link, paragraph, or an animated GIF, and it will simply be ready to paste.

Pick Up Where You Left Off is exactly what it sounds like. For example, when you log out of your PC, the document you were working on will pop up on your phone. Working between iOS, Android, and Windows, you'll obviously need to use Cortana as a bridge between devices.

All of this is similar to Apple's Handoff feature that was announced a few years ago, but a major difference here is that this is cross-platform. Coming this fall, it will be interesting to see how this is implemented.
