Microsoft Bing rolls out ethical settings to its Shopping hub in the U.S. and Canada

Microsoft has announced that it's expanding its ethical shopping options to the United States and Canada (English language). The feature, which was originally launched in the United Kingdom last year, will be available in these new markets so that shoppers can sort items and see which are best for the planet. Microsoft is expanding the feature as part of Earth Day.

To start using the feature, head to the shopping section of Bing and type in something like ‘shoes’. Down the left-hand side, you’ll find a variety of options under Ethical Values such as ‘Recycled / Upcycled materials’, ‘Eco-friendly materials’, ‘Vegan’, ‘Organic’, and ‘Fairtrade’. There is also a category called Ethical Ratings which pulls in data from Good On You to tell you how ethical products are. With the Ethical Ratings pane, you can filter out results that don’t meet the ratings of Good On You.

Aside from using the tools in the side pane to narrow down results, products rated by Good On You have an ‘Ethical choice’ tag slapped on them which you can hover over to see what rating the product was awarded. Good On You rates brands based on their environmental, labour, and animal-related practices so if you have always wanted to be more ethical in your shopping choices, the Good On You ratings should make this task very easy.
