The past year or so has been quite difficult in light of the pandemic, especially in terms of adapting to new remote working environment. This has also resulted in companies relaxing their remote working policies. Today, it appears that Microsoft is handing out a $1,500 bonus to almost all its employees in recognition of their hard work during the ongoing pandemic situation.
The Verge reports that it has obtained emails which indicate that the Redmond tech giant is giving this one-time pandemic bonus "in recognition of the unique and challenging fiscal year that Microsoft just completed."
The financial sum will be given to employees all over the world, as long as they are below corporate vice president in terms of designation, and also applies to part-time and contractual hourly workers. The only other requirement is that you need to have a joining date of March 31, 2021, at the latest. The announcement came via Microsoft's Chief People Officer, Kathleen Hogan.
That said, it is interesting to note that this bonus does not apply to employees from Microsoft's recent acquisitions such as LinkedIn, GitHub, and ZeniMax Media. Given that Microsoft has over 175,000 employees in total, this means that over $200 million is being given away as a part of this bonus, which is a nice gesture, to say the least.
