Microsoft kicks off the new year with seven new backward compatible Xbox games

For the first time in almost a month, Microsoft announced today that it's adding seven new games to Xbox One Backward Compatibility. The hiatus was planned, due to the holiday season.

Today's additions should bring the list up to a total of a whopping 316 games, with the 300 milestone being hit in early December. Here's what's new today:

Battlefield 3 (Disc Only)

Battlefield 3 leaps ahead of the competition with the power of Frostbite™ 2, the next installment of DICE's cutting-edge game engine. This state-of-the-art technology is the foundation on which Battlefield 3 is built, delivering superior visual quality, a grand sense of scale, massive destruction, dynamic audio and incredibly lifelike character animations. As bullets whiz by, walls crumble, and explosions throw you to the ground, the battlefield feels more alive and interactive than ever before. In Battlefield 3, players step into the role of the elite U.S. Marines where they will experience heart-pounding single player missions and competitive multiplayer actions ranging across diverse locations from around the globe including Paris, Tehran and New York.

Battlefield: Bad Co. 2 ($19.99)

Battlefield: Bad Company™ 2 brings the award-winning Battlefield gameplay to the forefront of Xbox 360 console with best-in-class vehicular combat and unexpected "Battlefield moments." New vehicles like the ATV and a transport helicopter allow for all-new multiplayer tactics on the Battlefield. With the Frostbite-enabled Destruction 2.0 system, you can take down entire buildings and create your own fire points by blasting holes through cover. You can also compete in four-player teams in two squad-only game modes, fighting together to unlock exclusive awards and achievements. Battles are set across expansive maps, each with a different tactical focus. The game also sees the return of the B Company squad in a more mature single-player campaign.

Dragon Age: Origins ($14.99)

Ghostbusters ($14.99)

Scrap Metal ($14.99)

Drift around corners with guns blazing and take out legendary competitors in this fast-paced, top-down racing game. Fight your way through explosive, action-packed missions and defeat cunning bosses to add their vehicles to your garage. Customize your newly-acquired cars and then return to the track to blast through more enemies. Jump online with Xbox LIVE to race against your friends and crush their cars with the wheels of your monster truck in pulse-pounding online multiplayer matches.

Strania ($9.99)

Reminiscent of nostalgic arcade games from the 1980s, XBox LIVE Arcade delivers an authentic robot shoot'em up with Strania. Incorporating strategic decision-making with the exhilarating action that defines the genre, Strania offers a dynamic game system and features dramatic effects plus a catchy soundtrack. Get ready for some hot arcade action as we're bringing back true hardcore arcade gameplay!

The Splatters ($9.99)

Backward compatibility is a great way to get new games for your Xbox One on the cheap, but don't forget about Games with Gold, which offers four free games to Xbox Live Gold members every month.

You've only got five days left to grab Outlast (Xbox One) - which was part of last month's Games with Gold, and The Cave (Xbox 360), which is among this month's offers. You've also got until the end of the month to grab World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap​.
