Microsoft: Office for iOS-Android rumor is "not accurate"

Earlier today, a number of websites, including Neowin, posted up news that Microsoft had confirmed that a version of its Office productivity software suite was coming to the iOS and Android platforms. The news came at first from a local Czech Republic web site, which claimed that they were told by Microsoft's Peter Bobek that the launch of Office for both mobile platforms would happen in March 2013.

Now Microsoft is doing some damage control. The head of its corporate communications division, Frank Shaw, posted up a message on his Twitter account, saying flat out, "The information shared by our Czech Republic subsidiary is not accurate. We have nothing further to share."

This post from Shaw is a lot stronger than a previous statement sent to Neowin from Microsoft, which said, " ... Office Mobile will work across Windows Phones, Android phones and iOS, and we have nothing additional to announce today about retail availability of the new Office."

There have been tons of rumors in the past about Microsoft launching an iOS version of Office. In February, The Daily reported, complete with images, that Microsoft was working on an Office port for the iPad, but such a port has yet to materialize.
