Microsoft is expanding its presence in Latin America with the opening of a new technology center in Mexico City, Mexico. Fox News Latina has announced that the tech center is the first such office Microsoft has opened in a Latin American setting. It has a total of 11 locations in the United States including New York, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Dallas. Microsoft also has 14 tech center offices around the world including Moscow, Munich, Paris, Dublin and Tokyo. The Microsoft Technology Centers are designed to help train software developers and businesses to use Microsoft products and services in simulated business environments.
This AFP story (via Google) reports that Microsoft spent $10 million on the building of the new Mexico City technology center, and it received help from other companies such as Dell, HP, Samsung and Intel. Furthermore, Microsoft said it would be spending an additional $690 million by the end of 2012 in Mexico; details about that new investment were not revealed. Microsoft also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the launch of Microsoft Mexico this week. Another technology center will be opened in Brazil "in the coming months."
