Microsoft pauses Windows 10 Team 2020 Update for Surface Hub 2S after complaints

In late October, Microsoft released Windows 10 Team 2020 Update for Surface Hub 2S devices. For those unaware, Windows 10 Team is the Windows 10 flavor for Surface Hub hardware, and it doesn't get updated too often. Before the release of the 2020 Update a month ago, devices were stuck on version 1703, which is over three years old.

While Surface Hub devices finally received the 2020 Update a short while ago, Microsoft is now pausing the rollout following customer complaints.

Microsoft states that as a part of its phased rollout, 70% of eligible devices in Phase 1 and 2 were updated successfully, but it has received complaints from a "small number" of customers who are complaining of issues following the installation of the update.

While the Redmond tech giant has not disclosed the scale of the problem and the issues encountered by organizations, it has stated that it will be taking two major steps following these complaints. Firstly, it has created a list of currently known issues and workarounds so customers know what to do if they encounter problems. Secondly, and more importantly, it has paused the rollout for Phase 3 and 4 devices for the rest of the year.

Customers with updates available can continue updating their Surface devices through the regular methods, but Microsoft has encouraged that they have a look at known issues before deciding to pull the trigger.

As Microsoft continues to work on fixing known bugs, it is extending support for version 1703 until March 16, 2021. The company says that it is committed to providing an "update experience of the highest quality" and will publish the next progress update on December 18, 2020.
