Microsoft today is releasing an update for Pix, its AI-powered camera app for iOS that was initially released in mid-2016. Last September, the company introduced the ability to automatically scan documents, similar to how Office Lens works, but without having to open a separate app or even launch a separate feature.
Today's update expands on that functionality, with a new Business Card feature. The app not only scans the business card, but it copies the text, allowing the user to save the information to their iPhone's Contacts app. That's not all though, because if you're signed into LinkedIn on your iPhone, you can also seamlessly port that information into the social network.
"Pix is powered by AI to streamline and enhance the experience of taking a picture with a series of intelligent actions: recognizing the subject of a photo, inferring users' intent and capturing the best quality picture," said Josh Weisberg, Principal Program Manager at Microsoft Research. "It's the combination of both understanding and intelligently acting on a users’ intent that sets Pix apart. Today’s update works with LinkedIn to add yet another intelligent dimension to Pix’s capabilities."
Just like with documents and whiteboards, business cards will be recognized automatically. Users won't have to manually turn on a feature to let the app know that it's scanning one.
