Microsoft registers microsoft-sony.com, partnership imminent?

This is certainly the first time we've heard of any sort of collaboration between these two companies. It seems some eagle eyed users have picked up some strange new domain name registrations by the official Microsoft domain name registrar. Could this be the start of a new console partnership?

Users over on NeoGaf have found domain names "sony-microsoft.com" and "microsoft-sony.com" which is registered by the "Microsoft Corporation Domain Administrator" via "Corporate Domains, Inc." A quick background check verifies this information matches Microsofts other domains, such as microsoft.com, as well as 45,000 other domains.

There's been no official announcement (or even rumor) from Microsoft about any partnership with the company, but the registration leads us to suspect a partnership for the next Microsoft console could be incoming -- or -- Sony is planning on developing Windows Phones. Whilst both possibilities sound crazy, we wouldn't have expected the Microsoft/Nokia Windows Phone 7 partnership either.

Sony currently only develops Android phones, with the company recently releasing an Android touting phone that can play Playstation games, the Xperia Play. The company might want to be getting in on the next big thing early, and an announcement may be made in the near future.

What do you think of the domains? A collaboration for consoles? For Windows Phone? Or something else altogether? Let us know in the comments!
